SAGD Produced Water Treatment Through Evaporation Technology
HPD offers heavy oil producers the experience and expertise to produce quality distillate for boiler feed water and treatment of blowdown from steam generatation, using decades of developments in falling film evaporation technology.
One such innovation, called the Water and Steam Production (WSP) process, combines produced water treatment and steam generation into one, extremely efficient system. The WSP process utilizes 100% of the heat from steam generation feedwater and produces 98% quality steam for steam injection into the well. This is achieved by eliminating contiuous blowdown from OTSG or industrial water tube / drum boilers.

HPD also offers incorporation of a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) system into the evaporation process. Use of crystallizers, in addition to the evaporator systems, removes nearly all of the solid contaminants from the process while recovering practically all of the water for reuse.
Growing environmental regulations regarding aqueous discharge and constraints on fresh makeup water make these systems an attractive option. ZLD systems in heavy oil production offer an alternative solution to the difficulties and restrictions involved with deep well injection.

Innovations, such as the addition of HPD designed vapor washers to the evaporator plant, produces an even higher quality distillate as feed to the package boilers. The vapor washer prevents undesired salts and other solids from entering into the boiler feed water, reducing potential fouling while inhibiting corrosion to extend service life of the boiler and other ancillary equipment.
The remote locations for oil and gas production a challenging environment for logistics and installation of the large pieces of equipment associated with these projects. HPD designs not only the equipment, but other components such as structural steel to accommodate concerns in the field. The use of modular, skidded system designs provides simpler transport of the equipment as well as ease of installation and erection on site.
