The Texas Brine Company LLC, located in Houston, Texas, is a leading producer of evaporated salt in the United States. Texas Brine's Baytown, Texas facility produces high-purity salt that is used primarily in chlor-alkali production, as well as other salt products sold into water softening, chemical and food grade markets.

Project Background and Needs
A new chlor-alkali chemical plant presented Texas Brine with an opportunity to supply high-purity sodium chloride into their process.
To support this business, a new salt production facility would need to be built in close proximity to the end customer. This plant would also be used to supply other high-purity markets such as low calcium/magnesium, chemical and a variety of food grade brands.
Capacity to support these opportunities was 750,000 tons per year. However, due to the demanding requirements for high system availability and the purity constraints of the supplied salt, Texas Brine would need to assure their customer that the strategy in place would meet expectations.
Project Solution & Execution
Analysis and testing by HPD's Research and Development team validated the process design and provided Texas Brine and their end customer with the confidence to move forward on the project.
Texas Brine turned full design-build responsibility to HPD for the entire scope of the new salt production facility. When completed, the salt company at Baytown would be home to the world's largest single-stage sodium chloride MVR (Mechanical Vapor Recompression) evaporated salt crystallizer. Designed production for this facility would be 750,000 tons per year of high purity sodium chloride at a high system availability.
HPD would also provide start-up support, working side-by-side with Texas Brine technicians to man the plant during the critical milestones of commissioning.
The Results
The output from the salt crystallizer at Texas Brine has surpassed quality requirements guaranteed by HPD. More importantly, the system has consistently exceeded production and availability targets.
